During the rainy season, if you’re facing acne issues, hair fall or even a slight loss of appetite, you’re not alone! This is because the Monsoon is extremely high-on-humidity with polluted and hydrogen laden air all around us, which can adversely affect both our hair and skin. As compared to other seasons, both men and women particularly experience more hair fall, an itchy scalp, dandruff, dryness and frizz in the Monsoon.
To specifically chalk out the do’s and don’ts for your haircare during the rainy season, we requested our Ayurveda Experts to answer the most frequently asked questions. Read to find the answer to your query!
Is Rain Water Good For Your Hair?
Rain water is acidic in nature as it collects impurities and dirt from the environment. With constant showers of the Monsoon and when combined with Sulphur Dioxide, it tends to become much more acidic in nature which is extremely harmful for the hair as well as the skin. When this rain water comes in contact with the hair, it makes the texture brittle, frizzy and rough by stripping off the natural moisture from the scalp and tresses. The rain water that gets trapped in the scalp also disturbs the pH balance of the scalp while laying a bed for bacteria to breed. Due to this, the hair follicles can become sensitive and absorb hydrogen which makes the roots swell up and hence, leading to hair fall and damage.
Is Hair Oiling Necessary During the Monsoon?
Our experts are often asked if one should indulge in a head massage during the rainy season or not. Rough, frizzy hair and a dry scalp definitely call for a relaxing hair oil treatment, to ensure that essential nutrients are soaked deep into the roots and help to repair and revive the strands. We recommend using the Organic Cold Pressed Virgin Oil Coconut for its cooling, healing and anti-bacterial properties. A coat of organic, cold pressed oil acts as a protective layer on the strands and scalp, while it provides intense nourishment to strengthen the hair follicles. Alternatively, one can also use the Ayurvedic Herb Enriched Head Massage Oil Japapatti which encourages hair growth, reduces hair fall and improves the texture for lush hair. However, it is best to avoid rigorous head massages as during the Monsoon – the hair follicles are rather sensitive and this can eventually lead to excessive hair fall and breakage. Indulge yourself in a hair oil treatment once in a week.
Can a Hair Mask help with Frizzy Hair?
Indulgent hair masks are saviors for damaged and frizzy hair! Such nourishing hair treatments make the tresses more manageable in the humid season, by refueling the dry strands with much needed hydration. We suggest using the Forest Essentials Intensive Hair Repair Japapatti & Brahmi Masque, a rich and creamy pre-shampoo hair mask, specially designed to protect, repair and nourish the scalp and lengths of your hair from deep within, for smoother and softer hair. Use once a week, and apply a generous amount on dry hair along its length – a whole fresh egg can be whisked and added in for extra nourishment. Leave the mask on your strands for at least thirty minutes before you wash your hair, for best results.
Alternatively, you can concoct a hair mask for frizzy hair at home using a few fresh ingredients from your kitchen. For this, mix a tsp each of Neem leaf powder, Amla powder and fresh yoghurt to create a creamy consistency. Apply the paste on your scalp for a cooling effect that also recovers dry and lifeless hair to voluminous, luscious locks

Our Ayurveda Experts have also shared three changes that can effectively help your revive, rejuvenate and protect the hair, this season. Read along to find out these best haircare tips for Monsoon.
Cleanse Using Natural, Sulphate Free Shampoo & Conditioners
Naturally formulated, Ayurvedic herb enriched hair cleansers are extremely gentle on the scalp and hair as they are completely free from lather generating, harsh chemicals like Sulphates. Instead, these Sulphate-free cleansers are infused with a natural cleansing agent, Reetha which deeply purifies to remove deposited dirt from the scalp and hair, while maintaining the hair’s natural moisture. From the exquisite range of hair care products by Forest Essentials, the Hair Cleanser Japapatti & Brahmi is an ideal Sulphate free shampoo to rejuvenate the scalp and treat frizzy hair in Monsoon. This is formulated with potent herbal extracts which are rich in anti-bacterial, purifying and soothing properties. Follow the Hair Cleanser with the Forest Essentials Hair Conditioner Japapatti & Brahmi to nourish and repair split ends, and rejuvenate the hair. During the rainy season, it is essential to shampoo and condition your hair at least twice a week. Always remember to naturally dry your hair after a wash, as the strands are weaker during the Monsoon and applying the external heat of hair dryers can worsen the hair condition.
Spritz to Treat Frizzy & Unmanageable Hair
While cleansing the hair thoroughly is key, it is equally important to protect and strengthen your hair, inside out. Indulge in potent herb infused Ayurvedic hair sprays that not only nourish the hair, but also add a protectant layer to combat environmental stressors, especially during the rainy season. We recommend using a silkening serum on the hair strands, to both nourish and protect the hair. Opt for the Forest Essentials Bhringraj Hair Vitalizer Spray, a lightweight serum textured liquid infused with potent extracts of Aloe Vera, Japapatti, Green Tea and Amla fruit to deliver optimal anti-breakage benefits, and repair damaged hair. This Vogue award-winnin hair spray works wonderfully as a protecting spray before styling the hair.
Switch to a Holistic Diet
The Monsoon can often tempt you to relish mouth-watering delicacies along with a hot cup of tea, but did you know that oily, heavy, and salty foods can lead to bloating and water retention in the body? According to Ayurveda, one must follow a holistic diet incorporated with seasonal foods, to achieve radiance from within and overall good health of the body, hair and skin. Our Ayurveda experts recommend that you should stick to nutrient rich fruits, vegetables and dry food items like Corn, Chickpea, and Oats which are easy to digest; even small quantities of these will keep you full for longer durations. It is best to avoid leafy vegetables and pre-cut fruits as they might lead to fungal infections, and instead indulge in soup and fresh fruit juice!
