Bhringraj, also called Eclipta Alba, is a very well known Ayurvedic herb for its ability to support strong, healthy, lustrous locks, and preventing the premature graying of the hair. The Keshya (hair) herb as per Ayurveda, Bhringraj is an effective remedy used to treat various hair concerns for centuries. Its properties including its pungent & bitter taste (Katu tikta rasa), light weight (laghu), dry texture (ruksha), hot composition (ushna), make it a perfect herb for balancing Vata and Kapha Doshas in the body. It is also considered as a Rasayana in Ayurveda as it helps in rejuvenation. In Ayurvedic medicine, the leaf extract of Bhringraj is also considered a powerful liver tonic and detoxifier. It contains several phytochemicals such as alkaloids, polyacetylenes, thiophene derivatives, flavonoids, and triterpenes. In fact, all the parts of this plant can be used for therapeutic purposes.
