How to use Orange Peel?
Orange peel can be used in many ways including the oil extracted from the peel and the powdered form. To get the orange peel powder, first the peel needs to be dried in the shade and then preferably hand pounded (to retain its nutrients) into powdered form. It should be stored in the air tight container. It should not be kept in refrigerators and should be kept away from any dust and contamination. The powder can be combined with other ingredients and can be used as an exfoliator, face masque or face cleanser.
As per the ancient science of Ayurveda, Orange peel is tikta (bitter) and has laghu (light) and ruksha(dry) properties. These properties make it a good pacifier for Kapha and Pita imbalances. It is useful in the health conditions originated from imbalance of these two doshas.
The dry and astringent properties make it a wonderful choice for skin issues like acne and oily skin. It contains citric acid that helps in the brightening of skin naturally and give you a natural glow. It has various skin enhancing nutrients including vitamin C, calcium, potassium and magnesium.
How to include orange peel in your skincare routine?
For Acne, the fruit can directly be squeezed onto the affected area or the peel powder can be mixed with Rose water or Milk and applied on the acne. It can also be mixed with Neem leaves powder and lime juice and can be applied on the face for 10-15 minutes. This should then be rinsed off with cool water.
For Oily Skin, which is more prone to blackheads and sebum formation Orange peel can be used as an face scrub which helps to remove all the dead cells and balances oil secretion.For exfoliation, it can be mixed with yogurt and applied over the face and be rubbed in upward and circular motions for 2-3 minutes and then it can be rinsed well with warm, then cold water.
For Pigmentation, it can be used as a facial mask. Powdered orange peel can be mixed with oatmeal powder and ½ tsp of turmeric and orange juice and applied all over the face. Orange peel is one of the active ingredients of our Narangi and Nagkesar Ubtan which gives remarkable results for pigmentation and post acne marks. It is recommended not to leave the orange peel juice overnight as it could lead to itchiness and in worse cases, severe burns on the skin .
For Tanned Skin, orange peel powder can be mixed with few drops of lime, sandal wood powder, ½ tsp of Multani Mitti and Aloe Vera Juice to make a paste. This can be used as a great summer skincare product for tan removal treatment and brighten the skin.
